Interaction of Laguerre–Gaussian laser pulses with borane targets of different hydrogen–boron ratio

Lars ReichweinAlexander Pukhov & Markus Büscher

The key findings are: 1) LG laser pulses can generate strong axial magnetic fields due to the Inverse Faraday effect, making them of interest for nuclear fusion, like in V4F. 2) Boranes allow some „tuning“ of the exact ratio of hydrogen to boron for different molecules, effectively changing the interaction of the laser pulse with the plasma.

High Yield of Alpha Particles Generated in Proton-Boron Nuclear Fusion Reactions Induced in Solid Boron Hydride B18H22

The V4F team has written a paper on the results of our first experimental campaign at the Prague Asterix Laser System (PALS) in 2023. While not yet peer-reviewed, the paper can already be accessed on arXiv here.

Optical Vortex Dynamics in Non-Uniform Twisted Ring-Core Fibers

Hassan Asgharzadeh B., Regina Gumenyuk, Marco Ornigotti.

This theoretical study investigates how, by controlling the twisting and tapering parameters, it is possible to achieve efficient power transfer between different OAM modes in V4F's ring-core fibers. While not yet peer-reviewed, the paper can already be accessed on arXiv here.

Power-Scalable Generation of High-Order Optical
Vortices Via Coherent Beam Combining

Hossein Fathi, Rafael F. Barros, and Regina Gumenyuk

This work demonstrates coherent beam combining as a versatile and scalable tool for the generation of high-power, high-purity optical vortex beams without imposing limitations on topological charge or spatial structure, while maintaining exceptionally high modal purity. While not yet peer-reviewed, the paper can already be accessed on arXiv here.

This work demonstrates an active spun ring-shaped tapered fiber as a gain medium for efficient amplification of OAM modes preserving their modal purity and polarization topology. While not yet peer-reviewed, the paper can already be accessed on arXiv here.

Innovation Radar Assessments after RP2

In our second periodic review, our consortium revisited and updated the innovations we see arising from our project. In addition to the three ones we identified in RP1, we added a fourth one to the list. All of 4 innovations have been assessed by the EC and published on their website.

1. "Active Helical Tapered double-clad Fiber with ring-shaped core for the generation of high-OAM light beams" can be found here.

2. "OAM-generated axial magnetic field scheme for inertial confinement fusion" can be found here.

3. "Novel borane targets for efficient proton-boron fusion" can be found here.

4. "Production process for highly reproducible synthesis of precursor materials" can be found here.
